Drum roller
are tough to clean. The drum roller of your toner printer can be cleaned and
you might want to do that in order to increase its life cycle. In most cases a
drum cartridge will last while using around 3 to 4 cartridges. After that, it
will wear out. However, you can increase the life cycle through cleaning and
this is something that you have to consider because the drum unit is quite
expensive when compared to the toner cartridge.
Before we get started,
remember that toner powder is dangerous because it is toxic until the transfer
to paper is done. Handle it with care. Try to clean the drum roller when you
notice:
Faded text
Paper marks or smudges
Paper jams often appear
Images have blank spots
Powder or lumps appear on the drum
Once again, remember that when
you try to clean the drum roller you can damage it in the event that you make
mistakes. Do that at your own risk!
We recommend that you take a
close look at the user guide that comes with your printer or look for the
troubleshooting manual on the internet. This is helpful as you can see what the
correct cleaning procedure is. Follow it and in the event that you do not find
such information, follow the tips mentioned below.
It is recommended to use
rubber gloves but washing or surgical gloves are also OK. Put a plastic sheet
that is large on a surface that is flat. You can use a newspaper or a large
sheet of regular paper. Open your printer and then remove your toner cartridge.
Look at the drum to see if there is obvious damage noticed. In the event that
you see such damage, replace the drum roller as there is no sense in cleaning
it.
Put the drum roller on a
newspaper or on the plastic sheet. Remove the toner spots that are large with
the use of pliers or tweezers. Stay attentive to not scratch the drum's
surface. Then, take a cotton swab and simply dip it in rubbing alcohol. Any
visible soiling should be gently swiped with the cotton swab.
If you have a drum roller that
is very dirty, take a lint-free cloth that is soft and drop some alcohol on it.
Be careful to not add too much. Look for toner residue when the cartridge is
out and also clean the interior of the printer if such areas are noticed.
When you are done, make sure
that you let the alcohol dry and then reinstall the toner cartridge. Do a test
run and in the unwanted event that you still have a problem, the only solution
that remains is buying a brand new drum roller. In addition, if you notice that
the drum needs to be replaced too often, you have to seriously consider buying
a new printer.
No leaking allowed between the
mixing material feeding port and the drum. The slack between the feeding port
and the drum should be less than 5mm. If leaking occurs, repair it depending on
the different mixer truck models. For example, for some models, just replace
the wide rubber strap. And for some models, repair it by welding the thin steel
plate with the size larger than a half circle.
