The city of Beatrice is to be commended

Just about the time this column goes to print Gage County Tourism will be hosting its Awards Reception for 2013 at Homestead National Monument of America. The annual awards reception serves several purposes. First and foremost it is a chance for Gage County Tourism to honor and recognize those individuals or entities that have been extremely supportive of local tourism through their actions and advocacy.

It also allows me to give those in attendance a brief overview of what has been happening in tourism at the local level and also what is upcoming. It also allows me an opportunity to reiterate how important the tourism dollar is to the local economy. To make this event possible the sponsors of the Awards Reception were Capri Inn and Suites of Beatrice, Dr. Derek and Amy Weichel, Mead Lumber and Ayars & Ayars Inc.

Each winner of an award will be presented a framed certificate of recognition. The 2013 Tourism Award winners are Friend of Tourism: Beatrice Daily Sun; Outstanding Event in a community of 0-9,999 population: Village of Adams for Adams Community Days; Outstanding Tourism Association: Southeast Nebraska Travel Council; Outstanding Tourism Campaign: Homestead National Monument of America; Outstanding Tourism Publication: Byway 136; Outstanding Website: Beatrice Area Chamber of Commerce; Outstanding Tourism Attraction: Gage County Historical Society & Museum; and the Outstanding Nature Tourism Entity: City of Beatrice.

Let me touch briefly on each of the winners as selected by the Gage County Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Committee. We appreciate the coverage that the Beatrice Daily Sun gives to tourism and the various events that come to Gage County. Gage County Historical Society had a huge success with their 100 Years of Wedding Dresses display that will continue to be shown into October. The city of Beatrice is to be commended for its commitment to our fine trail system, preserving trees when possible and just the general upkeep of our parks which gives Beatrice great curb appeal.

Two Gage County dining establishments deserve kudos. Jeff Korbelik of the Lincoln Journal Star newspaper rated The Black Crow Restaurant, Bar & Catering as the best restaurant in southeast Nebraska and stated that it was one of the best in the entire state of Nebraska.Find the latest trends in prom and Wholesale Short Homecoming Dresses with a large selection of unique.
